Traveling with certified service or emotional support animals
Confederation Bridge welcomes certified service dogs and emotional support animals (limited to dogs and cats) to accompany passengers with disabilities or emotional support needs, under the following conditions:
Certified Service Dog
- Eligibility: Confederation Bridge will accept one certified service dog per passenger with a disability for carriage without charge.
- Requirements:
- The service animal must be properly harnessed and remain on the floor at the passenger’s feet during travel or on the lap, fully under control by leash at all times.
- Carriers are permitted and encouraged for added safety and comfort.
- Restrictions:
- The service animal must not occupy a seat.
- Confederation Bridge reserves the right to refuse passage to any animal that poses a direct threat to the health or safety of other passengers, Confederation Bridge personnel, or contractors.
- Documentation Required:
- Passengers must be able to produce written proof that the service animal has been trained and certified by a professional service animal institution (example: Assistance Dogs International, IGDF, MIRA Foundation, Lions Foundation, and PACCK Foundation). Acceptable documentation includes:
- An identification card or document from a recognized service dog training organization identifying the person and their service dog.
- For non-guide service dogs, an attestation from a recognized training organization or individual, including:
- Confirmation of individual training for specific disability-related tasks.
- A description of the tasks the dog is trained to perform.
- Trainer credentials, including qualifications and affiliations with organizations like the Canadian Association of Service Dog Trainers.
- Information on the training program, including duration, goals, and assessment results.
- Passengers must be able to produce written proof that the service animal has been trained and certified by a professional service animal institution (example: Assistance Dogs International, IGDF, MIRA Foundation, Lions Foundation, and PACCK Foundation). Acceptable documentation includes:
Emotional Support Animals (Dogs and Cats only)
- Eligibility: Confederation Bridge allows emotional support animals, specifically limited to dogs and cats, to accompany passengers with emotional support needs.
- Requirements:
- The emotional support animal must be properly harnessed and remain on the floor at the passenger’s feet during travel or on the lap, fully under control by leash at all times.
- Carriers are permitted and encouraged for added safety and comfort.
- The animal must not otherwise occupy a seat.
- Restrictions:
- The service animal must not occupy a seat.
- Confederation Bridge reserves the right to refuse passage to any animal that poses a direct threat to the health or safety of other passengers, Confederation Bridge personnel, or contractors.
- Documentation Required:
- Passengers must present a valid medical or psychological note from a licensed professional, dated within the last 12 months, stating that the emotional support animal is required for travel and a Veterinary Certificate dated within the previous 2 months, identifying the dog or cat’s name and breed, confirm its health, and attest that it is free from contagious diseases, ticks, fleas, and current on vaccinations. It must also state whether the veterinarian is aware of any inappropriate behaviour by the animal, such as aggression or excessive noise.
All passengers traveling with service or emotional support animals must comply with any applicable federal or provincial regulations.
